Mafia Association and Extortion: Major Police Operation in Naples

The State Police executed a precautionary measure order issued by the Gip of the Naples Court, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against eleven people (of whom 9 were subjected to custody in prison, 1 to house arrest, 1 to the obligation of presenting themselves to the judicial police). The individuals are considered seriously suspected, in various capacities, of the crimes of mafia-type association as well as of extortion, attempted extortion, possession of weapons, and possession for the purpose of drug trafficking, aggravated by the mafia method and by the purpose of facilitating the Camorra association named Rione Moscarella clan, operating in the municipalities of Castellammare di Stabia, Pompei, S. Antonio Abate, and surrounding areas. In particular, during the investigations carried out by the S.I.S.C.O. of Naples and the SCO, with the operational support of the Naples Mobile Squad, various extortionate episodes, carried out to the detriment of some commercial operators, were identified. Moreover, one of the suspects, although detained, would have maintained telephone contacts with his accomplices, in order to plan and direct the extortion activities. The measure executed is a precautionary measure ordered in the preliminary investigation phase, against which appeals are allowed, and the recipients of the same are people under investigation and, therefore, presumed innocent until a final sentence.
