In the homes of Naples citizens, the latest generation of digital meters, smart meters, are being introduced. Abc, a special company of the City of Naples for the management of the integrated water cycle, continues its modernization efforts to improve the service provided to its citizens. The new meters were presented during an event held today in the Chiaia district, attended by the top management of Abc, president Alessandra Sardu and general manager Sergio De Marco, and the president of the Campania water authority, Luca Mascolo.
On this occasion, informative brochures were distributed to the citizens and they were shown how the smart meters work. To date, about 24,000 digital meters have already been installed, and by June, the company plans to have installed a total of 30,000. The districts where the new technology is already present in the homes of the Neapolitans are Chiaia, San Ferdinando, San Giuseppe, and Avvocata. The smart meters can read consumption continuously and accurately, managing to 'capture' even the smallest leaks. Thanks to remote reading, it is also possible to detect hourly consumption and understand if there are anomalies in the private plumbing system. "The new digital meters," explained Sardu and De Marco, "represent a technological innovation for the benefit of both the user and the environment because they help us avoid water wastage. The continuous monitoring of consumption also significantly increases the knowledge of the volumes leaving the system, making the water balance much more reliable."
The project is valued at 27 million euros, of which 21 million have already been funded, resources allocated to Abc through the Eic that participated in a Pon React Eu tender. To ensure widespread installation of digital meters, the company participated in a Pnrr tender and is awaiting the outcome. The goal is to connect 115,000 smart meters in the city of Naples. "Technological innovation is a fundamental pillar of the strategy," said Mascolo, "that we have adopted to enhance the well-being of citizens and to develop an urban environment that effectively responds to future challenges. This commitment has translated into a series of initiatives aimed at integrating new technologies into the infrastructure, improving the efficiency of services and the quality of life of users. Through these actions and the intercepted funding, we aim to create a dynamic and innovative community, ready to meet the needs of a constantly evolving world."
On the occasion, the project, also funded by the Pon React Eu, to replace water pipes in the Scampia district, where numerous leaks were recorded due to the age of the systems, was also illustrated. In particular, the interventions affected viale della Resistenza, via Labriola, via Ghisleri, via Ciccotti, via Galileo Galilei, via Bakù, and via Galimberti.
