Naples Metropolitan Area Gears Up for the Giro d'Italia Stages

The organization of the stages of the Giro d'Italia promoted by the Metropolitan City of Naples is getting into full swing, with the Avezzano - Naples, scheduled for Sunday, May 12, and the Pompeii - Cusano Mutri/Bocca della Selva on Tuesday 14, which will offer, for the third consecutive year, to 700 million viewers and fans from 190 countries around the world the extraordinary beauties of Naples and its metropolitan area: stages strongly desired by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi in the perspective of the promotion and enhancement plan of the entire territory that is bringing many benefits in terms of brand relaunch, tourism, and development. This morning, in fact, at the headquarters in Piazza Matteotti, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed, establishing the roles and relationships that the Metropolitan City, the Municipality of Naples, the Municipality of Pompeii, and the other Municipalities that will be crossed by the pink race will have to perform for the best outcome of the program that will see the riders, for the first stage, cross the Phlegraean Fields to then arrive in the capital with a sprint on the Lungomare, while for the second, depart from the city of the most famous archaeological excavations in the world, skirt the Archaeological Park of Longola, head towards Nola and the Early Christian Basilicas of Cimitile to leave the Neapolitan metropolitan area in the direction of Sannio. The document was signed by Mayor Manfredi, also in his role as mayor of the capital, the Mayor of Pompeii as well as Metropolitan Councilor, Carmine Lo Sapio, the city of departure for the stage of the 14th, and the Mayors and delegates of the Municipalities of Bacoli, Boscoreale, Camposano, Cicciano, Cimitile, Giugliano in Campania, Monte di Procida, Nola, Palma Campania, Poggiomarino, Pozzuoli, Roccarainola, San Paolo Bel Sito, and Striano. Also present at the event were the Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City, Giuseppe Cirillo, and the Metropolitan Councilor delegated to sports, youth, and events, Sergio Colella. Present were the Metropolitan Councilors Felice Sorrentino, Giuseppe Pezzella, Luciano Borrelli, and Domenico Esposito Alaia. By virtue of the agreement, the Metropolitan City has committed to financially cover the expenses necessary to host the stages on the territory - equal to 300,000 euros, already allocated - and to give the widest visibility to the cycling event through its social channels and the institutional portal, where a special section will be set up, also acquiring communication materials from the municipalities involved in order to spread a coordinated image of the entire metropolitan area. The entity of Piazza Matteotti has also committed to intervene in the road sections under its jurisdiction for all maintenance and control activities required by the organization of the cycling event. The Municipalities of Naples and Pompeii have taken on the role of leaders for the stages of their competence, for which they will take care of all administrative aspects with RCS Sport and will also participate in the promotion of the event together with the other Municipalities, which have taken upon themselves, on their part, all the territorial competence burdens deriving from the event. The stage will, therefore, touch some of the most beautiful places in the world, such as Naples, the Phlegraean Fields, Pompeii and its extraordinary archaeological area, the Vesuvian area, the Nolano: a Metropolitan City full of treasures to discover. "It is precisely thanks to our extraordinary heritage - stated Mayor Gaetano Manfredi - that we have managed to obtain for the third consecutive time, something that the organization hardly ever grants, the passage of the Giro d'Italia on our territory. The Giro represents a great international showcase, a powerful vehicle for spreading our beauties and our values. Working all together, with this spirit of strong cohesion and institutional synergy that we have recorded today, we will be able to achieve great results." Following the signing of the Protocol, a meeting of the Steering Committee established for the promotion of events and collateral activities to the passage of the Giro aimed at promoting the values of sport, legality, solidarity, and culture in a perspective of territorial enhancement, with the involvement of institutions, universities, CONI, sports federations, associations, and other actors and partners who have joined the request for participation of the Metropolitan City. Present, among others, were the Government Commissioner for Caivano, Fabio Ciciliano, the coordinator of the extraordinary commission for Caivano, Filippo Dispenza, the deputy director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, Adriana de Manes, the Captain of the Italian Navy Aniello Cuciniello, Italo Testa, professor at the University Federico II of Naples representing the delegate of the Rector, Antonio Pescapè, the delegate of the Center for juvenile criminal justice of Campania, Giuseppina Cioppa, and Rino Nasti representing the Cycling Federation of Campania.
