The Municipality of Naples has launched a maintenance and refurbishment plan for the roads in Posillipo and the Capodichino area, for a total of 45 and a half million euros. The plan was presented by the Councillor for Infrastructure, Edoardo Cosenza.
As for Posillipo, the road works are part of an integrated set of interventions called the Great Posillipo Project, developed in consideration of the site's high cultural value. For the maintenance and refurbishment of the roads on the Posillipo hill, resources are available for 31,460,227 euros. The interventions concern: Manzoni Street, Posillipo Street, Virgil Avenue, Boccaccio Street, Tito Lucrezio Caro Street, Petrarca Street and Orazio Street. The completion of the works is expected between next May and the first half of 2026.
The project also includes the refurbishment, restoration and enhancement of the Virgilian park (available funding: 3,699,943 euros); the restoration and re-functionalization of the city's fountains (available funding: 221,000 euros); sewer works and the subsequent road repairs (available funding: 3,280,250 euros).
As for the Capodichino area, for the maintenance and refurbishment of the roads around the airport, the administration has made available resources for 13,976,400 euros. Specifically, the works will concern the upper part of Calata Capodichino, Oreste Salomone Street, Commander Umberto Maddalena Avenue, Nuova del Campo Street where work is already underway, Don Bosco Street and the Firefighters' Memorial Semi-circle. The completion times are set between the end of 2024 and the first half of 2026.
For 2024, in addition to the interventions in Capodichino and Posillipo, the Municipality has planned the start of works on 16 kilometers of main roads: Parco Margherita Street, Toledo Street, Cinthia Street, Beccadelli Street, Girolamo Santacroce Street, Miano Street, Pozzuoli Street with a total expenditure of 23,885,140.78 euros. Cosenza reminded that the city's territory consists of 1,200 kilometers of roads, of which 270 are primary arteries and that between 2022 and 2023, 32 kilometers of main roads have already been refurbished at a cost of 18 million euros.
In addition, in 2023, about 1000 pedestrian crossings on main roads and 350 near schools were restored; 12 raised pedestrian crossings and 100 flashers on vertical signage at pedestrian crossings were installed. Finally, about 20,000 manholes and grates were cleaned. Currently, work is underway on another 25 kilometers of main roads at a cost of 30 million euros.
