Naples Police Crack Down on Theft and Counterfeit Goods

The officers of the Chiaia Operational Unit of the Naples local Police have identified and arrested a man responsible for the theft of a wallet belonging to two American tourists. The officers were already on the man's trail, a 24-year-old Algerian identified at the Naples Police Headquarters, for suspicious behavior in the area, and caught him as he was about to steal the wallet of the tourists sitting near the statue of San Giovanni Nicotera. During the search, the man was found in possession of other likely stolen goods, including a smartphone and a sum of cash. The thief, judged in a direct trial, was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended sentence. The officers of the Avvocata Operational Unit, on the other hand, carried out two criminal seizures and an administrative seizure of counterfeit goods during controls aimed at combating illegal street vending in Via Toledo. The material, which included 350 cell phone covers, 84 wallets, 97 bags, 113 belts, and 110 pairs of glasses, was deposited at the offices of the Local Police and made available to the Judicial Authority.
