Naples Remembers Francesco Pio Maimone One Year After His Tragic Death

"You will always be with us" is the message displayed on a large banner leading the procession. Hundreds are in the street: friends, family, acquaintances, Pianura - where he was born and raised - moves for Francesco Pio Maimone, the young Neapolitan killed in Mergellina a year ago. A year later, Naples has not forgotten him: the procession of love for the pizza maker who made headlines for the way he was barbarically killed by a peer: a fight between groups of young people believed to be close to the Camorra, sparked by a step on a pair of designer shoes. Exactly one year after the tragedy, the memory of Francesco Pio as justice is still sought: last Monday, the GUP of Naples Chiara Bardi accepted the requests of the public prosecutor and sentenced Rocco Sorrentino (defended by lawyer Francesca Di Dio) to six years in prison. Sorrentino is one of the eight people believed by the DDA of Naples to be involved in that absurd death. Meanwhile, two youth centers in the city of Naples will be named in memory of Francesco Pio and Giogiò, Giovanbattista Cutolo, the other young Neapolitan killed last summer in Piazza Municipio, whose legal case reached the first degree of judgment yesterday with the killer's conviction to 20 years in prison.
