Naples Scam: Young Man Arrested for Attempting to Defraud Elderly Woman

"I'm your son's lawyer, he's in trouble. The Financial Guard has stopped him and we need 2,000 euros to settle the matter," a 25-year-old man from Naples used the usual script for scamming the elderly. He contacted a 78-year-old woman and told her about the problem her son had gotten into. A home appointment in the Fuorigrotta district of Naples was arranged: someone would come to collect the money. The meeting was organized, but the grandmother, heeding the pressing advice of the carabinieri, decided to inform her son and then call 112. At the meeting, everyone was there, including the officers from the Naples mobile radio unit. The 25-year-old found himself in handcuffs without realizing it, even before he had obtained the money. Awaiting to tell his version of the events to the judge, he has been placed under house arrest for now.
