Naples Theatre School Announces New Direction and Course for 2024-2027

After the three-year period (2021-2024), which is about to conclude, led by Renato Carpentieri, the School for Actors of the Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale - established in 2015 on the initiative and project of Luca De Filippo - launches the new course (2024-2027) under the direction of Arturo Cirillo, a Neapolitan director and actor among the most loved and esteemed in the Italian theatrical scene, at the new location at the Reale Albergo dei Poveri. The Call for participation in the selections for admission to the Three-Year Course of the School - with all the information about the recipients, the disciplines, the participation methods, the application deadline - is published and available on the website of the Teatro di Napoli-Teatro Nazionale: www.teatrodinapoli.it. "It is difficult," says the director of the National Theatre, Roberto Andò, about the change of leadership at the school, "to say in a few lines why Renato Carpentieri is a great master, but there is no doubt that he is. The mark he leaves on the School of the National Theatre is one of those destined to last. We thank him for his precious work of guidance in this three-year period with affection, warmth, and gratitude." "At the same time," continues Andò, "we are pleased to announce the new director of the school, Arturo Cirillo. An actor-director among the most sensitive and talented on the Italian scene. An intelligence that I am sure will guide our students towards great human and artistic achievements with rigor and passion." On his appointment as director of the School, Arturo Cirillo states: "I thank Roberto Andò for asking me to direct the School of Theatre of the National of Naples. I admit I hesitated at the beginning because for several years I have been engaged in long tours with my shows. But then I told myself that it could be done, and it was right to contribute to the theatre of my city. I imagine a school open to the varied world of theatre, for a theatre of tomorrow that has more than ever the actor at the center of its making." The educational path of the new director aims to provide student actors with training through basic teachings, specific workshops, seminars aimed at interpretation, the use of the body and voice, in addition to the related theoretical insights; and also to provide student directors (a novelty of this new three-year period), in addition to common courses with student actors, targeted lessons on the problems of directing, as well as lessons on scenography, costume, and lighting design, as well as experiences as auditors and subsequently assistants in some productions of the Theatre. The educational activities will range from the study of acting with actors and directors of the national and international scene, to physical preparation through work with dancers and mimes; from learning diction to the education of the voice as a technical and emotional tool; from the study of the history and theories of theatre and entertainment, to the deepening of the correct use of the Neapolitan language and the practical knowledge of its dramaturgy and the various linguistic codes that characterize Italian theatre.
