Giuseppe Vassallo, 72 years old, trade union leader, former History and Philosophy teacher, is the new general secretary of Spi in Benevento, the retirees' union of the Cgil. He was elected unanimously by the recent general assembly of Spi Cgil convened by President Mario Morelli following the resignation, due to age limits, of the outgoing secretary Giuseppe Iodice.
Participating in this unitary and communal, positive and shared exchange of baton from Giuseppe Iodice to Giuseppe Vassallo were: Gianni Nugnes, from the regional secretariat Spi Cgil Campania Naples; the entire secretariat of the Chamber of Labour of Benevento (Luciano Valle, Giuseppe Anzalone and Antonella Rubbo); the director of the Inca patronage Delia Maio; militants and volunteers of the territorial leagues of retirees of San Giorgio del Sannio (Medio Calore), Montesarchio (Valle Caudina), Telese Terme (Valle Telesina) and San Bartolomeo in Galdo (Fortore/Tammaro).
"At the local level," the new secretary declared, "the Spi will be increasingly committed to enhancing the territorial leagues and the offices operating in the province of Benevento; strengthening the network with Auser and the other associations present in the territory; carrying out social bargaining activities to promote administrative transparency and the good use of public resources; organizing its offices in the best possible way so that they can be places of listening and solidarity, advice and protection of rights, too often denied".
