New Urban Security Regulation Enhances Checks on Commercial Activities

Following the new urban security police regulation, approved in December 2022, which introduced new and stricter sanctions for commercial establishments and food and beverage services, the Municipality has ordered the strengthening of local police controls, particularly in the so-called 'nightlife' areas of the city, regarding violations related to cases of illegal occupation of public land, sale of alcohol to minors, sale and service of alcoholic beverages after 3:00 AM, and violation of noise impact regulations. The new regulation provides, after the start of the procedure notifications, in case of repeated violations, a series of sanctions ranging from warnings, to suspension of the activity for 3, 7, or 30 days up to the revocation of the license. Since the entry into force of the new regulation, 1330 fines have been issued for illegal occupations of land, sales of alcohol to minors, and violations of noise impact regulations. From these reports, an intense activity of the single desk for productive activities (Suap) has resulted, leading to a total of about 700 warnings, about 70 suspension orders of the activity for 3 days for commercial establishments with or without table service, 20 suspensions between 7 and 30 days for selling alcohol to minors and violations of noise regulations, and a revocation of a bar license in the Chiaia area.
