At the music evening «No women no music» on Rai Radio2, BigMama and the Orchestra Olimpia participated, as well as actor Vinicio Marchioni, in collaboration with Pesaro 2024 - Italian Capital of Culture and Una Nessuna Centomila, presented by Gino Castaldo.
An event to reaffirm the commitment of Rai Radio2 - which brought together different artistic worlds on the same stage - and that of all the protagonists in fighting discrimination and promoting a message of acceptance and inclusion, through unprecedented and surprising musical fusions to the tunes of the hits of the rapper from Avellino and songs from the contemporary international repertoire.
«The synergy between women is absolutely my favorite thing,» said BigMama about the collaboration with the Orchestra Olimpia founded in Pesaro by artistic director Roberta Pandolfi and musical director Francesca Perrotta. «Something is changing, just think that when I was little I felt a lot of shame in talking about the violence I suffered, violence of all kinds. Now I'm no longer afraid. I'm not the first, the people who have talked about it before me have helped me a lot, because representation matters more than anything else,» said the singer.
«Ours is a symphonic ensemble composed entirely of women, a journey that began five years ago and has never stopped, added Roberta Pandolfi and Francesca Perrotta. «For No Women No Music we chose BigMama because she rocks, and we have always followed her with interest for the things she writes and the message she carries. We like to network, create empowerment. Una Nessuna Centomila is a reality that inspires us and we look at with respect, and it is beautiful and righteous to see women and men pursuing these goals, because change is for both».
«Those who need to change are us men, from many points of view,» echoed actor Vinicio Marchioni, a member of the UNC workshop, who during the evening performed some readings from «This is also feminism» by Lorenzo Gasparrini. «It starts from our homes, especially for our daughters and the youngest, to try to eradicate this mentality that has been instilled in us. We need to support shelters to make women who have suffered violence as independent as possible and who are trying to find a way out».
During the live broadcast, Fiorella Mannoia, Honorary President of Una Nessuna Centomila, also intervened through a video message to welcome BigMama to the artistic workshop of the Foundation: «Your commitment against bullying and gender violence, you are one of the few female rappers and for us it is a privilege and a pleasure. We will do many things together,» she commented enthusiastically. And precisely among the next initiatives planned, BigMama will be one of the protagonists, on May 4 and 5, of «una nessuna centomila-in Arena», the event with the great voices of Italian music together against violence on women which will also be followed and broadcast by Rai Radio2.
«Bringing together the Orchestra Olimpia and BigMama was a dream,» said Rai Radio2 Director Simona Sala at the end of the evening, «with Giulia Minoli of Una Nessuna Centomila and the Orchestra Olimpia that I met with Mayor Matteo Ricci for Pesaro City of Culture 2024, of which Radio2 is a media partner. Networking, as was said tonight, is bringing together many different worlds, as we have done with pop, rap, and symphonic music».
