Nurse and Ambulance Driver Assaulted by Patient en Route to Hospital

A nurse and the female driver of an ambulance were assaulted by a patient they were transporting to the emergency room of the Moscati hospital. The healthcare personnel had been alerted because the man, a drug addict, had become unwell after causing a scene in Montoro. Once on the scene and stabilized, the Mercy personnel loaded him onto the vehicle to transfer him to the Avellino hospital. Along the way on the Avellino-Salerno motorway link, he lashed out against the nurse and attempted to open the door with the ambulance in motion. The driver was forced to exit at the Serino junction. Here, the drug addict did not stop and slapped the two women. The carabinieri intervened and managed to restrain him with some difficulty. Fortunately, the victims of the aggression only suffered minor injuries.
