Philosophy Festival in Magna Graecia: A Journey Through Ancient Wisdom and Modern Inquiry

From April 8 to 12 and from April 15 to 19, there will be the "Philosophy Festival in Magna Graecia" with 1400 high school students from all over Italy, to relive the ancient path of the Mediterranean koinè in two sessions at Velia and Paestum, opening in Vallo della Lucania. The protagonists of the event will be the philosophers Giuseppe Girgenti and Riccardo Dal Ferro. "DIKE" is the theme of the Cilento edition of the Philosophy Festival in Magna Graecia conceived by Giuseppina Russo. The festival opened in Vallo della Lucania at the Teatro de Berardinis, with the institutional greetings of the mayor Antonio Sansone, the deputy mayor Tiziana Cortiglia, and the councilor Iolanda Molinaro. The program was presented by the president of the Festival Giuseppina Russo, by the scientific director Annalisa Di Nuzzo, by the head of dialogical-analysis didactic methodology Salvatore Ferrara, by the head of workshops Alessio Ferrara, this edition, taking place in Vallo della Lucania, Ascea, Elea-Velia, Paestum. The initiative has consolidated a national and international dimension, involving over tens of thousands of high school students in previous editions, spreading the knowledge of the cultural and archaeological heritage of the territories of Greece and Magna Graecia. The Philosophy Festival, by exalting the Genius Loci, in collaboration with Local Bodies, Institutions, and all subjects engaged in the valorization of the territory, is an ideal bridge between the places representative of Western thought. High school students from all over Italy discuss the philosophical theme while walking among the wonders of the archaeological areas of Velia and Paestum, and in the centers of the municipalities of Vallo della Lucania, Ascea," declares the creator and president of the Festival Giuseppina Russo who over the years has brought the initiative to Matera, Metaponto, Lecce and Gallipoli, Syracuse and Val di Noto, and in Greece to Athens, Delphi, Marathon, and Epidaurus. The program includes a dense schedule for students with the philosophical theater opening the festival at the Teatro de Berardinis in Vallo della Lucania. "The justice of Antigone. This year there are two philosophical dialogues "Justice according to Plato. From Mythos to logos and from logos to praxis" by Professor Giuseppe Girgenti and "Studied philosophy or lived philosophy? A matter of justice" by Professor Riccardo Dal Ferro. The days continue with philosophical workshops coordinated by Alessio Ferrara. Yoga and meditation with Giovanni Pisano, Mina di Maio, Theater with Alessandro Gioia, Riccardo Marotta, Street Art with Andrea Aldam, Teo Sant'Agata, Visual Expressions with Danilo Piscopo, Roberto Caccioppoli, Phantasiology with Massimo Gerardo Carrese, Resli Tale, Photography with Sebastiano Cautiero, Federica Bruschi, Radiosophy with Mario Migliaccio, Salvatore Esposito, Music with Luca Cioffi, Mario Di Bonito, Expressive Movement with Elvira Maione, Ilaria Cecere, Expressive Movement with Martina Cotugno, Giuliana Bello which conclude with UN_ANIME, a final performance of students. The Festival is also characterized by philosophical-theatrical walks in the Archaeological Area of Velia and Paestum with the selection of texts and authors curated by Annalisa Di Nuzzo Directing by Fabio Coccifoglia. The Agora among teachers of Philosophy for Children curated by the Crif (Research Investigation Philosophical center) of Professor Giuseppina Giuliano.
