Three polluting discharges eliminated, 13,750 inhabitants served by purification, 8.3 kilometers of new and high-performance pipes, and 800,000 liters of water recovered per day: these are some of the numbers and goals achieved by Gori (the company managing the integrated water service for about one and a half million residents in 75 municipalities between the provinces of Naples and Salerno) in Boscoreale thanks to the Energie per il Sarno and Azioni per l'acqua projects.

This morning there was a visit to the construction site for the sewage collection of the Centro area, to discuss the works funded by the Campania Region for over six million euros, for which Gori is the implementing body. Free discharges into the environment represent the primary source of pollution for surface waters: thanks to the elimination of those located in via Cirillo, via Montessori, and via Settetermini, the sewage of 13,750 inhabitants, representing over 50% of the municipality's residents, has been brought to purification.

The final goal is to put into operation the existing sewer network built in the 90s, but not yet usable because it lacks the connecting section that allows its entry into the district collector. The work, along with the ongoing works in Passanti, also under Gori's care, will complete the municipal sewerage scheme. The presentation of the interventions was held at the Municipality, with a focus also on the works to reduce losses included in the Azioni per l'acqua program.

Pasquale Di Lauro, mayor of Boscoreale said: «I have noted, from the inspection in the construction site in via Settetermini, that truly important projects and works are about to be completed. The territory needed these interventions, and certainly, the quality of life of our citizens will definitely be better. In everyday life, we had reports of water leaks in the territory, so you can imagine what the benefit can be in this respect. It should be noted Gori's commitment to fully respecting all aspects concerning the environment. It is not insignificant that at the end of these works, we will surely have cleaner seas and more livable beaches».

The president of Gori, Sabino De Blasi: «In Boscoreale, thanks to the Azioni per l'Acqua program, we have already recovered 800,000 liters of water per day and with the intelligent search for leaks, thanks to the digitalization of the network, we will further improve these results. Another very important action we are undertaking in synergy with the Campania Region is the remediation of the Sarno, we are moving quickly also with this type of commitment. We need to close a total of 113 discharges into the environment and we believe that by the summer of 2024 significant results will be seen, and then everything will be completed in 2025. Obviously, it is a strategic and extraordinary work for these places because it will return a healthy environment to all residents and the entire bathing coastal strip».

Raffaele Coppola, coordinator of the Sarnese-Vesuvian district of the Campania Water Authority: «We are here to tell the population not promises but concrete interventions that we have already realized both on the sewer theme and for the remediation of water pipes. Many times, rightly, the citizens have accused us of leaks on the same streets. We are trying to implement what I call the Marshall Plan against water leaks, capable of replacing 8.3 kilometers of pipes in this Municipality. We are doing this initiative also to tell the citizens about the works we are doing to ensure that this path of remediation is as shared as possible. Only if we are all on the same side can we look to the future with great awareness and success».

The President of the Campania Water Authority, Luca Mascolo: «The works are already largely completed: we have connected 14,000 inhabitants to the Sarno mouth purifier, we are pushing forward, at full speed, a huge action of decontamination of the entire Sarno hydrographic basin. We are doing this thanks to the availability of Gori, the workforce of the many companies involved, and especially thanks to the commitment and determination and will of president De Luca and vice Bonavitacola who have understood the considerable magnitude of a strategic intervention that can restore dignity to the Campania Region and give back that decorum and quality of life to the inhabitants living along the banks of the Sarno».

The event was also attended by the CEO of Gori, Vittorio Cuciniello.
