The National Week of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, organized by the Regional Order of Chemists and Physicists of Campania, ended on a positive note. The event took place from February 4 to 11 all over Italy.
Thanks to the fruitful synergy between Nausicaa Orlandi, president of the National Federation of the Orders of Chemists and Physicists, and Rossella Fasulo, regional president already leading the Equal Opportunities commission of the National Federation, several initiatives were put in place, all aimed at disseminating and involving younger people in disciplines related to chemistry and physics.
On February 8 and 9, two appointments were held where two awards were announced by the National Federation: the 'Chemistry and Physics to build the Future' award, aimed at high school students, which will open in September 2024 to then designate the winners on May 20, 2025, on the occasion of the National Day of the Chemist and Physicist; and the 'Chemistry and Physics for Women' award, aimed at evaluating the best degree thesis in Chemical and Physical Sciences. In this case, the announcement is already open and can be consulted on the Federation's website and will close on April 30, 2024.
The presentation of these two awards, which took place in two online appointments, was very popular among students and the recordings are available. The National Week of STEM ends today, February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated by the Order of Chemists and Physicists of Campania with a study seminar and a purely Campanian award, which this year reaches its second edition. This is the 'Ornella Vittorioso Award', a young Neapolitan chemist who prematurely passed away due to a serious illness. The announcement will be published on the regional Order's website.
This recognition is aimed at young graduates from Campanian universities who have distinguished themselves for the best thesis and therefore for the best course of study undertaken in these disciplines. 'It represents - says President Rossella Fasulo - an initiative within the strategy that intends to promote orientation, learning, training and the acquisition of skills in the field of STEM disciplines. Last year we had a great success - concludes Fasulo - also with the presence among others of the regional councilor Lucia Fortini, the councilor of the Municipality of Naples Chiara Marciani, of the Federico II, Vanvitelli and Salerno Universities. We want to continue on this path aware that good practices will lead to increasingly important results, especially with regard to the presence of women. These paths are a valid tool to train and specialize professional profiles increasingly sought after in the world of work'.
