Public Contract Scandal Shakes Avellino City Council

Review hearings for Filomena Smiraglia and the brothers Diego and Fabio Guerriero are skipped. The lawyers of the three suspects in the investigation on the contracts at the Municipality of Avellino have waived their right to attend the hearing. This morning, manager Filomena Smiraglia has filed her resignation from the position at the Municipality entrusted to her by Mayor Gianluca Festa. In the past few days, the mayor had already removed her from her duties related to public works and assets. The investigations concern the management of contracts for the energy improvement works of some municipal buildings. The sponsorships of a basketball team by the companies in charge of the works are also under the scrutiny of the Avellino Prosecutor's Office.
