This morning, on Remembrance Day, in the square Martyrs of the Foibe in the Libertà district, the mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella, in the presence of the prefect Carlo Torlontano, laid a floral tribute in commemoration of the victims of that immense tragedy and of the Istrian-Fiuman-Dalmatian diaspora. «The blind and inhuman violence of the Foibe has long been minimized, when not outright misunderstood or denied. But the asymmetry of memory - explains Mastella -, as President Mattarella warned yesterday, is a further outrage to the victims and is not tolerable».
In his opinion «a community grows in the collective and shared consciousness of history. In Benevento in the Martyrs of the Foibe square there was even a lack of a street sign: we thought it was right instead from last year to enhance this place of memory and reflection with a sober but significant ceremony».
