Renovation Works Begin at Galleria Umberto I in Naples

In Naples, the construction site in Galleria Umberto I opens: from Monday, March 18, the work on the flooring and the guardhouse indeed begins. "The renovation of Galleria Umberto," explains Laura Lieto, the urban planning councilor of the City of Naples, "is articulated in several projects, in several interventions that have different timings and methods. There is the restoration of the flooring whose project was managed by the superintendent, which is a project now completed and validated. We expect the duration of the construction site to be about a year." The City, the councilor reports, "has also implemented a construction site management program that naturally entails continuous use of the Galleria's space. The delicacy of placing contemporary artifacts in relation to a historical architecture that has very particular characteristics led to the decision to realize the closure of two of the four entrances, the one on via Santa Brigida and the one on via Verdi." The head of Urban Planning announces that "by June we count on having the executive project completed and validated and therefore by the end of the year to complete this project by actually realizing the two announced closures." In the meantime, "there is an ongoing activity of maintenance of the iron and glass roof of the Galleria. Thus, the City, overall, is carrying out interventions on the parts that are also public property whereas the rest of the Galleria belongs to private owners."
