Rescue Operation for a Stork in Distress in Castel Volturno

The military personnel belonging to the Carabinieri Forest Unit of Castel Volturno, following a telephone report from a citizen about the presence of a stork inside a reclamation canal at Cancello ed Arnone, promptly intervened together with the animal recovery staff of the veterinary service of the ASL of Caserta. Upon arrival, the military, having identified the avian specimen in question and realized the flying difficulties it presented, descended into the reclamation canal and, with the help of equipment provided by the local maritime office of the Coast Guard of Castel Volturno, also present on the scene, it was possible to safely recover the white stork specimen, which was immediately transported to the Frullone veterinary hospital in Naples for the necessary treatment. From the initial news, it is excluded that the animal had been hit by gunfire. The recovered stork specimen is believed to belong to the pair that has been regularly breeding on a pylon in Cancello ed Arnone, as the location of the find is just over 800 meters from this breeding site. As soon as its health conditions have stabilized, it will be released back into the wild.
