Resurrexit: A Month of Cultural and Religious Events in Sant'Agnello

From the synergy between the Municipality of Sant’Agnello and the Santanello Confraternities, comes the schedule of events that will accompany the citizens from March 2 to March 31. 'Resurrexit' is the name that encompasses the appointments inspired by the tradition of the hooded ones, realized within the project 'Sant’Agnello. Lights, colors, and music - From the Profane to the Sacred', under the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Naples, and included in the metropolitan event schedule for 2023/2024. 'With this event, which sees for the first time so united the forces of all the active protagonists of the Easter period, we tell a social, anthropological, religious, and cultural phenomenon, particularly felt in the Sorrento peninsula - jointly declare the mayor of Sant’Agnello Antonino Coppola and the Tourism Councilor Marcello Aversa - Through art and music we build pieces of awareness towards the precious heritage of traditions that characterizes our territory.' The initiative will kick off on Saturday at 6:45 PM at the Church of Ss. Prisco and Agnello where the first meeting between the Archconfraternity of the Most Holy Sacrament and Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Archconfraternity of the Gonfalon of Saints Prisco and Agnello, the Confraternity of the Sacred Heart of Mary and Saint Joseph, and the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Most Holy will take place. Meeting with Don Antonio Loffredo, former parish priest of the church of S. Maria della Sanità. A highlight of the event program is the first edition of the National Competition 'Notes for the Soul' called by the Confraternities of Sant’Agnello in collaboration with the ANBG, National Association of Wandering Bands, with the patronage and contribution of the Municipality of Sant’Agnello, open to musicians from all over Italy for the composition and orchestration of unpublished pieces aimed at further expanding the repertoire of songs that mark the rites of Holy Week during the Easter processions. The finalist scores will be the protagonists of the event scheduled for Saturday, March 16 at 7:00 PM at the church of Ss. Prisco and Agnello. The schedule then provides for four concerts. On Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 PM at the Archconfraternity of the Ss. Sacrament of Nativity and Virgin Mary the soprano Olga Cafiero and the alto Candida Guida, accompanied on the piano by Annalisa Pepe, will perform the first absolute performance in modern times of the 'Good Friday' by Camillo Paturzo, a musician from Metese of the 800s, and music by authors of the '900 born in the Sorrento peninsula. On Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 PM at the sanctuary of S. Giuseppe, there will instead be the meeting of the choirs of the Confraternities who, accompanied by the band 'City of Sorrento', will perform the hymns of Holy Week of the Sorrento Peninsula composed and set to music by Mons. Angelo Castellano. On Saturday, March 23 at 7:00 PM the Schola Cantorum San Francesco, directed by Rosanna Frasso, will hold the concert-meditation 'Stava Maria Dolente' in the church of Ss. Prisco and Agnello, while on Monday, March 25 at 7:00 PM the 'Miserere mei Deus' will be intoned on the churchyard of the mother church of S. Maria delle Grazie in Trasaella and through the ancient streets of the village. To also visually recount the Easter traditions, finally, two exhibitions are planned: from March 15 to March 31 the photographic exhibition 'Shots of Passion' in Piazza Sant’Agnello and the exhibition of paintings by the painter Bruno Balsamo who, in addition to being engaged in historical research, creates paintings inspired by the sea and the rites of Holy Week in the Sorrento Peninsula, also chosen for book illustrations including the volume 'Southern Shipowners Yesterday and Today' by Pietro Antonio Toma and Bianca D’Antonio. In Sant’Agnello, the exhibition will be titled 'Paths of Faith' on the theme of the hooded ones and will be set up from March 17 to March 31 in the premises of the former workers' mutual aid society of Sant’Agnello.
