San Gennaro Vesuviano Awards: Honoring Local Talents and Contributions

Carmine Nunziata, the coach of the national under-21 soccer team, will also be among the personalities who will be honored on Friday, April 19, at the San Gennaro Vesuviano Award. On the initiative of the mayor, Antonio Russo, for the third consecutive year, the Municipality will award personalities from San Gennaro Vesuviano who have distinguished themselves in various fields, from sports to culture, from business to art, and even in the religious sphere, bringing prestige to the small town at the foot of Vesuvius and making it known worldwide. Mister Nunziata, born in 1967 in San Gennaro Vesuviano, after a career as a midfielder (Inter youth team), has been the coach of the Azzurrini since 2021 after leading the Under-17 National team to two European silvers (England 2018 and Ireland 2019), the Under-19 to a bronze (Slovakia 2022), and the under-20 team to second place at the World Championships (Argentina 2023). 'Behind these football results, there is not only talent and professionalism but also an extraordinary personality, a hardworking nature, and values of sacrifice and passion: a combination that we want to serve as an example for our young people. It is with this spirit that the San Gennaro Vesuviano City Award was created. Hard work and dedication always pay off,' said Mayor Russo. And these were the criteria used by the committee to assign the awards that will be delivered on Friday in the council chamber, in Piazza Margherita. The ceremony will take place starting at 6 p.m. The Award for the historical-cultural category goes to Aniello Giugliano, teacher and historian; for the sports category, as mentioned, the award to Carmine Nunziata, coach of the national under-21 soccer team; the Award for the business sector to Besana S.p.A. In addition, two posthumous awards: to Professor Armando Liguori and Fra Germano Cozzolino. During the event, honorary citizenship will be posthumously conferred to Professor Giovanni Borrelli, founder of the homonymous high school. The event will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of the Municipality of San Gennaro Vesuviano, allowing everyone to follow the awards and rejoice for the merits of individuals who bring honor to our entire community.
