Seizure of an Industrial Plant in Macerata Campania for Severe Environmental Violations

The forestry police have seized an establishment in Macerata Campania due to serious and numerous environmental violations. This establishment is involved in the production of advertising signage and industrial painting. The owner has been reported for the crimes of illegal waste combustion, creation of an uncontrolled deposit of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste, activation of an industrial wastewater discharge without the prescribed authorization and production of emissions into the atmosphere without the prescribed authorizing act; fines of over 8 thousand euros have also been imposed on the entrepreneur for the lack of waste loading and unloading registers, and other administrative violations. The blitz was carried out by the forestry police of Marcianise, who discovered in the external square and inside the company shed the accumulation of various special waste produced by the company, hazardous and non-hazardous; the material, it emerged, was lacking in the signage indicating the danger and the 'Eer' characterization code, and collected in bulk, not grouped by homogeneous categories. The police also found two drums contaminated by dangerous substances and partly burned, inside which there was a thick layer of ash from urban solid waste, mixed with waste consisting of paper and materials, absorbents contaminated by dangerous substances; clear evidence of the fire with which it was attempted to dispose of the residues of the productive activity. Inside the shed, the soldiers found two welders, one oxyacetylene and one continuous wire, as well as a cutting torch, without a fume abatement system, and an industrial wastewater discharge directly connected to the municipal sewer was ascertained.
