Senator Matera Denounces Health Care Deficiencies in Campania Region

«We return to denounce how deficient and lacking, even in terms of health, the programming of the Campania Region is, despite the greater funds reserved by the government and Parliament». Thus the senator of Brothers of Italy, Domenico Matera, also president of the Legislation Committee at the Senate. «The issue of the cuts of doctors on board the 118 ambulances - he continues - is emblematic of the little attention that the Region (does not) pay to the Campanian hinterland. The 118 provides a service that is fundamental for our territories and the chronicles testify how precious is the role played in saving human lives every day. Because yes, it is worth underlining, we are talking about human lives and not mere numbers. And human lives, often and willingly, are saved by grappling with minutes if not with moments. Although on board the ambulances would remain to operate valid professionals such as nursing ones, it is clear how subtracting doctors from the crews means delaying diagnoses and therapeutic responses. And this is a luxury that we cannot afford especially if we contextualize ourselves to a territory that still has large infrastructural limits in terms of connections and, above all, to a territory that has an evident breathlessness in hospital performances. The "Rummo", as is known, suffers an overload that exposes patients to long stays on stretchers and staff to immense efforts. The Santagatese hospital has a very downsized emergency room. It is therefore unthinkable, in this territorial situation, to also snatch the medicalized ambulances. We therefore return to request to pay extreme attention: already in June of last year I denounced the risks associated with the downsizing of the 118 stations of Ginestra degli Schiavoni and San Bartolomeo in Galdo. Today I return to emphasize how risky and irresponsible it is on the part of regional policies to even think about such cuts, this time even extended to the entire province. I again ask the mayor of Benevento, in his capacity as president, as I already proposed to him in December 2022, to convene a conference in which the mayors can propose to the Region the solutions for the territory». Matera also wanted to reiterate the government's commitment to health: «The governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, thinks less about being a showman and worries, rather, about better programming the funds that the center-right government has increased for health also for Campania. On the specific point already with the so-called bill decree (number 34 of March 30, 2023) the government has allocated 170 million euros to overcome the shortage of medical personnel by resorting to the additional services provided by article 115 of the collective labor contract health area. A similar intervention was included in the financial law number 213 of December 30, 2023, at article 1, paragraphs 218 and 219. This is one of the possible solution hypotheses. Others could be hypothesized and that I reserve - he concluded - to express in a future meeting that I have already asked the general manager Volpe, always attentive and sensitive to the problems of provincial health».
