Salvation postponed for Shedirpharma Sorrento which, after rightfully winning the first set 20-25, was forced to endure the dominant comeback of the home team, who won the next three sets 25-14, 25-18, 25-20. With one round left in the regular season, the names of the seven teams that will compete in the promotion playoffs (Macerata, Fano, Lagonegro, San Giustino, Palmi, Lecce, and Modica) are already known, as well as the two teams that will be directly relegated to B (Marcianise and Bari). The two teams that will play the playout to decide the third team to be relegated to series B are yet to be defined. The teams at risk are four: Sorrento with 28 points and 11 victories, Naples with 26 points and 9 victories, Sabaudia with 28 points and 9 victories, Casarano with 27 points and 9 victories.
On the last day, there will be a derby between Sorrento and Naples while Casarano hosts Lagonegro and Sabaudia plays the already relegated Marcianise. Having so far achieved a number of victories that cannot be matched by any of the other three, Sorrento can avoid the playouts by winning against Naples with any result, regardless of the outcomes of Sabaudia and Casarano's matches. It could also be saved by losing 3-2 if either Sabaudia or Casarano does not reach 30 points. Returning to tonight's match, San Giustino took the field with Biffi as setter, Cappelletti as opposite, Wawrzynczyk and Skuodis as outside hitters, Bragatto and Quarta as middle blockers, and Marra as libero. Sorrento lined up with Bellucci as setter, Szabo as opposite, Disabato and Gozzo as outside hitters, Pilotto and Garofolo as middle blockers, Prosperi as libero.
Like in other previous away matches, Sorrento started very well, taking advantage of numerous errors from the nine-meter line by the home team, managing to win the first set with a score of 20-25. The second set was balanced until eight all. From there on, the home team performed significantly better than in the previous set, improving in all fundamentals. While everything went well for the home team, the Sorrentines slightly dropped, managing to score only 6 points against the 17 of their rivals.
In the third set, San Giustino again started better, quickly taking a 5-1 lead. Sorrento managed to fight back into the game, taking the lead at 12-13, but was soon forced to concede 4 aces by Cappelletti (the first two with the help of the net) and was again forced to chase. The home team continued to press from the nine-meter line, further extending the lead and winning the set 25-18. Sorrento started the fourth set decisively, managing to gain a two-point advantage over their rivals on two occasions, at 4-6 and 8-10, staying in the lead until 12-13. In the second part of the set, the home team came out on top again, winning the set with a score of 25-20.
