Six Men Arrested in Rome for Scamming an Elderly Person

Six men, all originating from the province of Naples, were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Rome Trastevere company for aggravated fraud in conspiracy against an elderly person. Everything started after the arrest of a man for a scam against an elderly woman in the Pigneto area, last February 12. The Carabinieri analyzed the contacts and movements of the arrested man and traced back to the headquarters in Naples, from which phone calls were made to the victims to deceive them into handing over money and jewels to a fake postal delegate who would show up at home to collect the nephew's package. Based on the investigative findings, the Rome Prosecutor's Office issued a search decree inside the telephone exchange, located in a depot in Casoria. Simultaneously, the Carabinieri of Trastevere arranged patrol services in the capital to intercept any messengers in contact with the telephone exchange to carry out the scams. And in a residential street of the Tomba di Nerone neighborhood, they intercepted and noticed a suspicious car. At the wheel, they recognized the man already arrested last February 12. After following him for a few meters, they saw an elderly man approach the car and hand him banknotes and a check. They thus stopped the man and recovered the entire sum of money. The other five were caught in the telephone exchange set up on a mezzanine floor of a condominium.
