Somalia 1968-74: A Glimpse into a Different Era

If today Somalia appears as the country of terror and indiscriminate violence, it has not always been so, and only a few decades ago, those who stayed and worked there even for a few years contracted that variant of the so-called "mal d'Africa" that might well be called "mal di Somalia". Memories like those of the Neapolitan lawyer Andrea Starace, jurist at the Islamic Supreme Court of Mogadishu between 1968 and 1974, certainly help to imagine a very different Somalia, an adventurous, exotic, and wild place, but also with an ancient culture to discover.
