The 11 Flowers of Melarancio Tournament: A Tribute Through Sports

A project of sports and sharing that aims to keep alive the memory of the very young students of the Nicolardi middle school: this is the intent of the "11 Flowers of Melarancio Tournament", organized by the D'Ovidio Nicolardi Sports Center, now in its fourth edition. The tournament aims to give space to all sports associations that share socialization, integration, competitive passion, fair play with young athletes who have approached the game of volleyball, basketball, and five-a-side football. This year, in addition to the D'Ovidio Nicolardi Sports Center, the sports associations: ASD A.G.C.A, Academy Volley Flegrea, ASD Padula, Pianura Volley, Virtus 7 Stelle have joined the initiative. Also this year, the creators of the project wanted to remember the tragic accident that occurred on April 26, 1983, when 11 students of the D'Ovidio Nicolardi Middle School lost their lives in the Melarancio tunnel on the A1 highway while on a school trip. "We care a lot about this tournament because for us it is important to keep alive the memory of the 11 boys from our school who lost their lives on a school trip: we thought of doing it with sports practice so that the healthy values of sport were associated with the boys of Melarancio," explains Professor Giuseppe Crosio, promoter of the event - In May, at the conclusion of the activities, we will organize a day in which we will award the winners and as always invite the relatives of the boys of Melarancio. A thank you to the principal of D'Ovidio Nicolardi, Professor Maria Parascandolo, for the support she has given to our initiative." About 300 students will be involved.
