The Archaeological Potential Map of Pompeii's Municipal Territory: A Comprehensive Guide

"The Archaeological Potential Map of the Municipal Territory of Pompeii", the book by Domenico Camardo and Mario Notomista, with a contribution from Aldo Cinque, will be presented tomorrow, March 14th at 5 PM by Domenico Esposito in the auditorium of the Excavations. Accompanied by photos from Francesco Varone, the volume is published by the Amalfi Coast Center for Culture and History in collaboration with the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, the Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture for Campania, the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for the Metropolitan Area of Naples, the municipality of Pompeii. The initiative is organized by the international association "Friends of Pompeii" Ets. The "Map" was drafted in 2020 on behalf of the municipal administration, used for the development of the urban plan. And the tool provides a complete map, hitherto nonexistent, of archaeological findings dating from prehistoric times, with attention to areas subject to restrictions throughout the territory, bringing together data from various sources. The goal: "To constitute a valid working tool that serves as a basis for all those professionals who will work for the urban development of the city". Present at the meeting were Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii; Teresa Elena Cinquantaquattro, manager of the Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture for Campania; Mariano Nuzzo, superintendent of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for the metropolitan area of Naples; Carmine Lo Sapio, mayor of Pompeii, and Giuseppe Gargano, from the Amalfi Coast Center for Culture and History.
