An artistic journey full of successes and milestones that of the comedian actor Mariano Grillo. A career full of satisfactions that since his youth has seen the artist divide himself between successful shows, important awards and television appearances. Thus, after his first experiences on Rai in 2013 as an emerging comedian, theatrical performances alongside numerous famous artists and the arrival at Zelig in Milan, Grillo talks about his career and his way of observing the evolution of comedy especially among young people. «I approached the theater - Mariano Grillo tells - thanks to the heritage received from my father who had this passion and carried on his own theater company. I chose the comedy genre from the beginning because that sense of giving a smile to people makes me feel good and happy! As a child I admired the theater made by Eduardo, Totò, Massimo Troisi, they are legends for me, absolute myths that have brought Naples to the world. They were the ones who gave birth to this passion inside me, this vocation, this desire to laugh and make laugh».
In light of your experiences, to what extent, do you think, in recent years the way of doing comedy has changed?
«In the last twenty years the world has changed a lot and maybe we still don't realize it. Today there are social media that make everything more immediate. Before, instead, you went to see a comedian just to be surprised by what he would say and how he would treat the various topics related to the usual themes of current affairs, famous people and politics. Today making people laugh has become a more complicated mission. And this, perhaps, also because we are overwhelmed every day by so many negative factors and events. However, I notice that the audience is looking for a more cutting-edge comedy, an “intelligent” comedy. The same one that I like and that I try to carry on in my shows treating in an ironic way the topics of the present and the everyday things like the issues concerning the critical points in the couple, from engagement to marriage and those concerning the problems of Neapolitan society».
What more than anything else has marked your artistic adventure and what are the projects for the future?
«I can say that even today, two years later, I still have inside me the fantastic memory of winning the Massimo Troisi award. From this recognition, from this precious victory, in my opinion, everything is born! From there was born “Everything under control” a comedy show that tells about the events that have happened to us in recent years. Said so, it may seem like a dramatic show but in reality it is a very comic work where you laugh a lot! Often, I also laugh on stage, and this characteristic for me, when I am on stage, is the most beautiful and important thing. For the future I always say that “the best is yet to come”. In the meantime, I am preparing the next performances of my show that will touch various stages such as Salerno and other theaters in the province of Naples. Finally, soon, we will plan the next theater season where I hope to live many other new and beautiful emotions around Italy».
