The arrival on TV of The Penguin, a new spin-off from Matt Reeves' The Batman universe, highlights the immense talent of Colin Farrell. The Irish actor, nominated for an Oscar in 2023 for The Banshees of Inisherin, has already portrayed the character in The Batman, showing himself to be completely transformed thanks to hours spent in the makeup chair.
The villain had already been portrayed by Danny DeVito in its cinematic history, but without a significant change in makeup.
The Penguin, the prosthetic makeup revolution
To portray the Penguin, the actor underwent an average of four hours of makeup every day. A prosthetic work that completely revolutionized Farrell's features, making him practically unrecognizable. In recent promotional interviews for The Penguin, there has also been talk of the possibility that the series could be renewed for a second season. Farrell complained about the heaviness of undergoing such a heavy makeup process every day, declaring how he couldn't live "such a life" even for hypothetical new episodes.
The Penguin, Colin Farrell doubts a second season
«I enjoyed it, but it was really heavy» Farrell declared. «I complained to anyone who would listen, saying that I couldn't wait for it to be over» he explained, revealing how stressful it was to approach such a visually different and complex character. The Penguin will arrive on Sky and NowTv on September 20, co-distributed with Warner and HBOMax.
