The Conclusion of the Diocesan Inquiry into the Life of Servant of God Mother Eucaristica Cicala

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 6:30 PM, there will be a Holy Mass presided over by His Excellency Monsignor Domenico Battaglia, Archbishop of Naples, at the Parish of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Melito di Napoli, on the occasion of the conclusion of the diocesan inquiry into the life of the Servant of God Mother Eucaristica Cicala (1894-1974), founder of the Congregation of the Eucharistic Handmaids. "From the life of Mother Cicala," says Monsignor Michele Autuoro, Auxiliary Bishop of Naples, in the presentation of the biography written by Professor Ulderico Parente, "it is evident how God takes care of His people, giving the town of Melito di Napoli a Mother, a female reflection of that God whom Scripture calls the Father 'of orphans and widows'." Her mission came to life on August 6, 1934, along with a group of young women spiritually guided by the zealous parish priest Monsignor Raffaele Balsamo, giving shape and substance to a religious family that in the Church points directly to the Eucharist, the source and summit of all Christian life. From the first experience in the institute of the Expiatory Victims of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, the whole life of Mother Cicala was a desire to imitate the Master.
