The Importation and Condition of Used Cars in Italy: A Comprehensive Analysis

39.7% of all imported cars checked on carVertical last year in Italy were imported from Germany, 17.3% from France, 8% from Belgium, 7.9% from Spain, and 7.3% from the United States. Many of the imported used cars - carVertical notes - have a problematic history. The most problematic vehicles come from the United States: 7.3% of them had tampered mileage and almost all were damaged. Of the German cars that arrived in Italy - according to the study - 3.4% were found to have altered mileage and 22.8% had previous damage. 3.3% of the cars from France had tampered odometers and 41.2% had been involved in more or less serious accidents. A similar situation was found with Belgian cars: 3.6% with rolled back kilometers and 40.2% had been in accidents. 'Germany is the largest exporter of used cars in Europe. Since the country has a good highway infrastructure, it exports many premium and diesel cars with high mileage. People also believe that Germans pay more attention to car ownership and maintenance. However, when used vehicles are transferred to owners in foreign countries, some information, such as maintenance history or mileage, may be altered, and this poses a greater risk,' says Matas Buzelis, automotive expert and head of communications at carVertical.
