The Mysterious Death of Antonella Di Massa in Ischia: An Unsolved Case

At the current state of the investigation, no hypothesis is excluded regarding the death of the 51-year-old Antonella Di Massa in Ischia: 24 hours after the body was found, this is the only information leaking from the investigative environment, where there is tight secrecy over what remains a true mystery. The hypothesis that the woman committed suicide is currently the favored one, although many aspects of the case also make the scenario compatible with homicide. Antonella's body showed no apparent signs of violence although the medical examiner noted some bruises: these could be the result of either a fall or beatings, but it will be the autopsy, ordered by the Naples prosecutor's office, that will determine this. Last night, the body of the 51-year-old was removed and transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of the II Policlinico of Naples where it will undergo the autopsy examination, after which the funeral can be held. The results of the autopsy are considered fundamental to establish the date and cause of death, along with the results of the investigations carried out by the scientific department of the Carabinieri. The law enforcement agencies, however, continue to conduct investigations and inspections from all angles, also questioning several people. The investigations are coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Gloria Sanseverino. The focus is primarily on reconstructing what happened since February 17th, when the woman disappeared. According to investigators, she would have died no more than 24 hours before the body was found: where was she hiding while dozens of people were searching for her and how did she manage to evade the searches conducted with all available tools and techniques? The body was found by 'Chi l'ha visto?' a short distance from her car, on an uncultivated land overlooking a road leading to several houses and agricultural funds, very frequented and where the law enforcement had already passed searching for her, even with the help of molecular dogs. Antonella had been seen, precisely in the area where the body was later found, by two witnesses on the day of her disappearance and had been captured by surveillance cameras at the entrance of the alley. And around that parking area, the search operations were concentrated, going on for several days with a great expenditure of men and means, and then suspended at the beginning of this week. According to some witnesses, next to the body was found a thermos bottle and under the body a black plastic bag, while the news according to which the owner of the land where the body was found had not noticed anything strange the day after Antonella's disappearance has been denied: the man is 93 years old, is sick, and has not frequented the property for years.
