There had been numerous protests from residents against the Municipality of Naples and the X Municipality regarding the state of neglect, safety risks, and problems with traffic flow.
For this reason, today a delegation from Forza Italia, consisting of Senator Francesco Silvestro, president of the Bicameral Commission for Regional Affairs, and the group leader in the Naples city council, Iris Savastano, conducted a site visit to the Torre Cervati Arch, located on Via Torre Cervati, between Via Manzoni and Via Caravaggio.
The State of Neglect of the Torre Cervati Arch
In May 2023, indeed, a remnant of the military fortification dating back to the Middle Ages, which in the '700 served as the entrance to the Masseria dei Marchesi Patrizi di Ripacandida, had been cordoned off by workers from Napoli Servizi, after the detachment of stones, posing serious risks to residents, but was soon after abandoned again, turning into a dump of waste.
Someone had even abandoned a moped inside the fence.
“Mayor Manfredi and the president of the X Municipality (Fuorigrotta-Bagnoli) must become aware of this case of degradation and neglect and the discomfort of the residents,” states Senator Silvestro.
“It is not acceptable to leave a structure with historical and cultural value in such a state in a city that wants to offer tourists evidence of its History. I have submitted a question about the Torre Cervati Arch to the Ministry of Culture, which has confirmed that the property of the Arch belongs to the Municipality. Manfredi and the president of the X Municipality cannot continue to ignore this,” he added.
He then concluded, “For Forza Italia, this is the first initiative of a political campaign boots on the ground, with feet on the ground, among the people, to force the Municipality and Region to address the problems of the real country.”
The group leader of Forza Italia in the City Council, Iris Savastano, has announced an urgent question to Mayor Manfredi and the Tourism Councilor about the situation of the Torre Cervati Arch. “In any other city in the world, the Arch would have been a tourist attraction, here instead it is a symbol of degradation and neglect.”
