“The South has the opportunity to grow and to be fundamental for the North and for the rest of Europe,” said the Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, at the Euromediterranean Festival of the economy Feuromed taking place in Naples, discussing the opportunities also offered in the energy sector. The Russian war in Ukraine, “has overturned the European energy model, which had been complacent with Russia,” the minister continued. “We received 30 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia: it was enough to open the tap a bit more and the problem was solved. There was a stability in European prices that led to no worries. And just think that only four years ago there were many political positions against the TAP, that is against the pipeline coming from Azerbaijan, which is what saved us in 2022.”
