Tragic End to a Burglary: Two Men Arrested as Accomplices in Caserta Incident

Theft ended in tragedy, two men believed to be accomplices of the thief who died last October during a raid in Caserta have been arrested. By delegation of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the Police executed a house arrest custody order against two repeat offenders from Pianura, Naples, suspected of attempted burglary, perpetrated last autumn in an apartment in the "Le Fontane" Park in Caserta, in conjunction with a third accomplice - a 30-year-old also originally from Naples - who died falling from the fourth floor of the building, in an attempt to flee. While one acted as a lookout inside a staircase of the building, the other two entered an apartment, where, with a wire grinder, they cut the door of the safe located in the bedroom and took possession of the jewelry and money contained inside, placing them in a duffel bag. As the two burglars were about to make their exit, the owner of the apartment suddenly returned. At that point, the criminal acting as a lookout ran away and tried to warn the two accomplices. The two burglars, realizing they had been discovered, attempted to flee through the front door, which, however, was blocked. Only after several attempts to open it, using a crowbar, one of the two criminals managed to escape through the front door and make his way out of the Park, quickly running down the stairs. The other, caught up in the excitement of the moment, attempted to flee by climbing over the balcony railing to reach the apartment below; but he fell to the ground from a height of about 20 meters. In their escape, the criminals left the stolen goods and one of their cars at the scene of the crime. The investigations, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and conducted by the Mobile Squad of the Police Headquarters, quickly identified the two suspects who had fled, thanks to the cross-examination of witness statements, surveillance camera images, and telephone and telematic data.
