The tragedy took place last night, in a gym in Maddaloni.
The victim is Nicola Ciampa, a 29-year-old soldier, originally from Taurasi, a town of about 2000 inhabitants in the province of Avellino. The young man, a trainee at the Magrone barracks in Maddaloni, was training at the gym on via Napoli, when he lost consciousness and collapsed on the ground.
Immediate were the rescues of the others present and the personal trainers who promptly alerted the 118. However, the work of the doctors was in vain: the boy's heart had already stopped beating and nothing could be done but certify the death. The local police also arrived at the site.
The causes of death are most likely attributable to an illness that struck the young man down instantly. The public prosecutor will consider in the coming hours whether to order an autopsy or return the body to the family for the funeral.
