Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Two Young Carabinieri in Italy

The funeral for Carabinieri marshal Francesco Pastore, 24 years old, who died Saturday evening in a road accident that occurred in Campagna, in the province of Salerno, has begun in the cathedral of Manfredonia, in the province of Foggia. The military vehicle was hit by a car driven by a 31-year-old woman, already known to the authorities, who later tested positive for alcohol and drugs and is now facing charges of vehicular manslaughter. Along with Pastore, his colleague Francesco Ferraro, 27 years old, from Montesano Salentino, in the province of Lecce, also died. Ferraro's funeral started around 10 AM. A third military member from Terlizzi, who was driving the Carabinieri vehicle, was injured, as was the driver of a third car involved in the accident. Pastore's wake was held at Palazzo Celestini. His father is also a Carabiniere, serving as a sergeant in the company of San Giovanni Rotondo. In Manfredonia, a day of mourning was declared, with flags flown at half-mast at the City Hall and other public buildings throughout the day. Ferraro, 27 years old, leaves behind his parents, Antonio and Paola, and his brothers Gigi, Michele, and Alessandro. The young man was active in volunteering, particularly with the local Civil Protection. Ferraro's brother, Alessandro, is also a Carabiniere, serving in Calabria.
