Two Men Arrested for Defrauding an Elderly Woman Using Impersonation Scam

Two men, aged 33 and 26, originally from the province of Naples, have been arrested by the State Police for aggravated fraud committed against a 91-year-old lady residing in Porto San Giorgio, in the province of Fermo. They had stolen 6,000 euros in cash from her using the "Carabinieri marshal" technique. Personnel from the Caserta Nord Highway Police sub-section, during surveillance services along the Caserta motorway stretch, checked a car for dangerous driving near the Caserta Nord exit; the two occupants were inspected and 6,000 euros were found in the underwear of one of the two. The two were thus accompanied for investigations to the offices of the Highway Police where, also thanks to the collaboration of the police officers from the Fermo Police Headquarters, it was ascertained that the money was the proceeds of an aggravated fraud committed against a 91-year-old woman from Porto San Giorgio. In particular, it emerged that they had made the elderly woman believe that her daughter had been involved in a serious road accident; one of the two had in fact contacted the woman on her home phone pretending to be a marshal of the Carabinieri, while the other presented himself to the 91-year-old to collect the money. The elderly woman also suffered an ailment because she was worried about her daughter. The two fraudsters ended up in the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
