This is the One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass, a very widespread procedure that involves reducing the volume of the stomach by connecting it to the intestine with a single anastomosis, that is, with a single connection between the two organs. In this way, patients, in addition to eating less food, also absorb less because the first 200 cm of intestine are no longer crossed by food but are, in fact, bypassed.
On Thursday 22 and Friday 23 February, the complex operational unit of bariatric and endocrinometabolic surgery, directed by Professor Mario Musella, and belonging to the DAI of general surgery, transplants and gastroenterology, guided by Professor Giovanni Domenico De Palma, will welcome a truly exceptional audience. The two-day event will be held at the Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery of the Federico II Hospital Company of Naples and will be entirely dedicated to updating in the field of obesity surgery, confirming the vocation of the highest specialty of the Federico Policlinic, a point of reference in the surgical treatment of severe obesity and related diseases.
After the SICOB (Italian Society of Obesity Surgery and Metabolic Diseases) and IFSO (International Federation of Bariatric Surgery) qualification of Center of Excellence, the unit directed by Professor Musella will host the English surgeons, expert professionals from important bariatric surgery centers in London, Manchester, Bristol, and Liverpool, for a high-profile scientific program: a mix of live-surgery, interactive conferences and question and answer sessions to best share the clinical practice of this surgical technique.
