The «Urban Conviviality» Award, created by the Napolicreativa association, is an international project for the promotion and enhancement of our territories, which shines the spotlight of the public and the media on forgotten places, but of extraordinary beauty or architectural interest.

The intention is to collect ideas regarding the redevelopment of a site and the strength is to also discuss it with the inhabitants of the place. Designers from all over the world are invited to express themselves through project concepts that will be presented at a show/event (in person), submitting the projects to the judgement of both a technical jury and the public.

Designers, administrators and citizens, will confront each other with the aim of increasing awareness of the cultural heritage of which we are custodians and the responsibility we have towards it.

The winners will receive a cash prize and, for the sole purpose of giving even wider dissemination of the event, there will also be a competition on Facebook that will give the right to an additional Web prize for those who will receive the most votes.

The prize is carried out in partnership with the Municipality of Torre Annunziata and the Order of Architects Ppc of Naples and Province will also enjoy this year the patronage and contribution of the call for the promotion of the Quality of Architecture promoted by the Campania Region.

The tenth edition of the prize «Urban Conviviality» is dedicated to the redevelopment of Piazza Nicotera and the recovery of the facing former Modern cinema-theatre, in the municipality of Torre Annunziata in the province of Naples.

The square to be rethought as a meeting place between the city, the sea and the administration, the second as offices, multipurpose center for cultural activities and exhibitions, without forgetting the underground parking areas. The Modern Cinema saw the beginning of its prestigious theatrical activity in 1910.

Subsequently with the advent of cinema, it also became a venue for film shows, but from the eighties onwards it was closed and abandoned to its decay. A month ago it was purchased by the Municipality of Torre Annunziata which intends to renovate it as soon as possible.

Participation in the award is open to working groups coordinated by a graduate in Architecture, Engineering or Design. The group can also include non-graduates or people from other disciplines. The call is open from February 2 to April 19, 2014, the projects must be sent in Italian.

On March 15, an opening conference and an inspection of the site with interventions by the Municipal Administration of Torre Annunziata interventions by the jury, stakeholders and discussion with the community. The event will be held at Palazzo Criscuolo and will be shared live on Facebook .

The deadline for registration for the award is March 18, while for delivery it is April 19. On May 4 the presentation of the projects will be held with a public meeting at the Urban Center of Torre Annunziata at Palazzo Criscuolo.

Urban conviviality is much more than a competition of ideas, it is the idea of a community, including administrators that takes shape, work in progress, through the competence and vision of many young designers, for many of whom this award represents the debut towards the public. The award was partly financed by the Law for the promotion of the quality of architecture issued by the Department of Territorial Government of the Campania Region.
