Wide-ranging actions in the Land of Fires by the military and law enforcement to combat environmental crimes, with the support of Local Health Authorities and firefighters.
A targeted joint operation was conducted in the municipalities of Castelvolturno and Mondragone, with specific attention to storage activities. A significant seizure was made by the men from the metropolitan police of Naples, led by Commander Lucia Rea. In an area of about 8,000 square meters along the right bank of the Volturno, a mechanical workshop for boats (equipped for the repair of marine engines, welding and painting) was identified, operating without any authorization. The site was discharging, without any title, the wash waters of the yard directly into the river while large quantities of hazardous and non-hazardous waste were found deposited in a bare area of about 1000 sq.m. One person has been reported.
Further checks were made on the input of the provincial police of Caserta in another industrial area of Castelvolturno mainly used for the construction and storage of boats, with the seizure of two funds covered by considerable amounts of waste derived from the activities present on site. Administrative penalties of over 2,000 euros were also applied.
The operation is part of the general strengthening of the monitoring and contrast of the illegal exploitation of areas adjacent to the final stretch of the Volturno, arranged, also through the synergies of the Land of Fires control room, by the prefect of Caserta, Giuseppe Castaldo.
Two other action days, instead, involved the territory between Scisciano, Nola, San Vitialiano, Marigliano and Saviano and the municipality of Arzano. In Saviano two targets were identified by the metropolitan police: a body shop operating without authorization and a nearby bare area of about 2,500 square meters where waste was illegally stored. In total, 3 activities were seized, 3 people were reported and fines of over 10,000 euros were applied.
