Yellow Weather Alert Issued for Campania Region Due to Rain and Storms

The Civil Protection of the Campania Region, considering the evaluations of the functional center, has issued a yellow level weather alert for rain and storms valid from midnight until 8 pm tomorrow, Saturday, March 9. In the alert zones 1 (Piana Campana, Naples, Islands, Vesuvian Area), 2 (Alto Volturno and Matese), 3 (Sorrentine-Amalfi Peninsula, Sarno Mountains, and Picentini Mountains), 5 (Tusciano and Alto Sele) scattered precipitations are expected, even with intense downpour or storm characteristics. The storm phenomena will be characterized by rapid evolution and could have particular intensity. It is also expected that the precipitations may be accompanied by hail, lightning, and gusts of wind. Attention must be paid to the hydrogeological risk: among the main consequences of the impact on the ground of the precipitations are possible floods, rising hydrographic levels of watercourses, water flow on roadways, runoffs with material transport, rock falls, and landslides. Municipalities are reminded to keep the Municipal Operational Centers (COC) active and to implement all measures aimed at preventing, combating, and mitigating the expected phenomena, in line with their respective municipal civil protection plans. Pay attention to the communications from the regional operations room. Due to the saturation of the soils due to the rains already occurred and the hydrogeological fragility of some territories, landslides and rock falls are possible even in the absence of new precipitations. It is recommended to monitor public green areas and structures exposed to wind stresses and wave motion. Parks Closed in Naples Due to the weather alert, the parks in Naples will be closed.
