He tried to scam two elderly women in the same day, but the second time he ended up in handcuffs. In Caserta, the Carabinieri stopped a 19-year-old from Naples, thanks to the second victim, an 85-year-old woman, who realized she was dealing with a criminal and not a courier who came to deliver a package. The young scammer, following a well-established modus operandi, had first called the woman's home pretending to be a courier who would soon come to deliver a package for which it would be necessary to pay 1,400 euros.
The woman, however, became suspicious, and when the criminal arrived at her home, he found not only the chosen victim, but also a relative of the latter; seeing himself discovered, the 19-year-old resorted to harsher methods, threatening violent retaliation if he was not given jewelry, money, and even the wedding ring worn by the 85-year-old. The items were finally given to him, but when the young man fled, he only managed to cover a few hundred meters: he was soon stopped by the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of the Caserta Company, who had been contacted in the meantime.
The military confiscated 1200 euros, a pair of gold earrings with white pearls and a wedding ring, which was the loot gathered at the 85-year-old's house, and another sum of 1000 euros, which, it emerged, belonged to an 89-year-old woman scammed on the same day; the latter was contacted and formalized her complaint. The 19-year-old was placed under house arrest for aggravated fraud and extortion.
