Zizzinella is the latest wine born at Lavinum wine resort, a sparkling wine made using the ancestral method, from the idea of producer Michele Scotto Lavina, who wanted to bring back to the ancient cellar a sparkling wine obtained as the winemakers who animated this ancient place of wine used to do.
Lavinum is a mid-nineteenth century cellar, located on the ridge of yellow tufa lying on the bay of Torregaveta. Brought back to life by Michele and his brother Mario Lavina, entrepreneurs from Procida, who fell in love with this place of rare beauty, saved from long oblivion. The falanghina vineyard is just one hectare, on the steep terraces that bravely climb around the extinct crater of Torregaveta.
Going up the ancient mule track that leads to Lavinum wine resort, on the ridge, four different layers are noticeable, representing four different significant eruptions, starting from the first one that occurred 40,000 years ago, the so-called Campanian Ignimbrite, the most violent explosive eruption that occurred in the Mediterranean, now the subject of important geological studies. Up to the most recent, dating back to 15,000 years ago, that of the Neapolitan yellow tuff, which strongly characterizes the hill of Torregaveta. The soil in the vineyards changes radically by moving a few meters, due to the different volcanic eruptions. The falanghina vineyard is called "summa cavea", it is just over one hectare, on thin and powdery soil like talcum powder, very light in color, mature soil rich in fragments of Neapolitan yellow tuff (15,000 years).
Zizzinella has a joyful name precisely because it wants to be a carefree wine, to be enjoyed from aperitif to table - 2023 is the first vintage. It is an ancestral method, a sparkling wine sur lies, with sediment. Light and sunny, with volcanic accents that bring back to the vineyard rich in tuff and pyroplasts, with citrusy notes and crust of bread, juicy and delicate in the bubbles, creamy and fresh, it encourages to drink and drink again as if there were no tomorrow.
