The course is organized by the complex structure of neuroradiology of the IRCCS Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna - USL company of Bologna and with the sponsorship of the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences of the University of Bologna, in collaboration with the complex structure of neuroradiology and the departmental operational unit of Vascular and Interventional Radiology of the A.O.U. "San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi D'Aragona" of Salerno and with the S.C. of neuroradiology of the Ospedale del Mare of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro. The course is part of a series of important events, representing a necessary and constant update on interventional neuroradiology and is mainly directed at specialist neuroradiologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, anesthetists, cardiologists, vascular surgeons, emergency doctors and all professionals involved in the management pathways of pathologies of neurointerventional interest. Professor Luigi Cirillo, director of the school of specialization in radiodiagnostics of Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna and scientific head of the course, emphasizes the importance of the topics covered: "The continuous and constant increase in Interventional Neuroradiology activity is confirmed by AGENAS data (2022), which report more than 1,800 interventions performed for cerebral vascular malformations (cerebral aneurysms), while in 2023 the thrombectomies treated in ischemic stroke according to the Italian endovascular registry (REI) were about 4,000. In addition to promoting the culture of continuous training and specialist updating, the Salerno meeting, which has a history of eighteen editions, ensures an effective multidisciplinary discussion, aimed at making homogeneous and improving the treatment of our patients in the numerous Centers in Italy where they are regularly carried out. To date, in addition to professional skills, it is fundamental to engage in the organization and definition of care pathways and personnel training for better resource management." The course, included in the national program of continuous education in medicine and accredited ECM with 13 training credits valid for the three-year period 2024-2026, will be structured on the morning of Friday, April 19, in two sessions, focusing on the novelties concerning organizational difficulties and the theme of patient communication, paying specific attention to the legal norms that regulate it, such as the decree law of December 22, 2017 n. 219, which defines the time of communication between doctor and patient as a time of care. Furthermore, tools useful for implementing correct communication between operators, as well as with the patient, aimed at the search for the humanization of care, will be presented and discussed. The subsequent sessions (two focused on cerebral hypoperfusion and two on intracranial hypertension) will see the alternation of reports given by nationally and internationally renowned professionals with clinical cases to stimulate and improve a constructive multidisciplinary discussion. The numerous editions of the Course, always held in Salerno, have had the great merit of bringing together and constructively and proactively dialoguing the different specialists. Precisely the comparison and debate, which continuously evolve in the field of specialties involved in neurological sciences, will allow defining optimal recommendations to offer the patient therapies, each directed for their specific case, within interdisciplinary diagnostic-therapeutic pathways. After last year's meeting, the 2024 edition will underline the importance of multidisciplinarity in clinical-assistential, but also scientific, i.e., research in the most common neurovascular pathologies related to cerebral hypoperfusion and intracranial hypertension, for which the choice of the best diagnostic or therapeutic pathway strongly depends on the Neuroradiologist. Thanks to the presence of colleagues from cutting-edge facilities, both in terms of organization and technological updating and research, also from Europe (France, Spain, Switzerland), the Course aims to integrate competencies and expand knowledge.
