Geolier came second in the Sanremo festival despite 60% of the preferences in the televoting and was «failed» (for some even «boycotted») by Press Room and Radio with all the ensuing controversy?

This is not the first time. There is already a precedent that caused a lot of uproar at Sanremo 2019. It was when Mahmood won with the song "Soldi", at a time when, according to a real plebiscite in televoting, the victory should have gone to Ultimo.  

Mahmood obtained 38.9% by adding televoting, press room and jury of honor followed by Ultimo with 35.6% and Il Volo with 25.5%. However, the televoting result was very different: Ultimo would have been the winner with 46.5% of votes compared to 39.4% of Il Volo and only 14.1% for Mahmood. It was therefore, also in that case, that the Press Room (with the Jury of honor of the time) decreed first Mahmood, second Ultimo and third Il Volo.
