Over 100 fourth and fifth year students from five high schools in Sannio and Irpinia participated in the second edition of the contest 'The Great Bridges: Imagine, Model and create your bridge, then we will test it together'. The students engaged in the construction of miniature bridges made only with the use of small sticks and glue. The models were then subjected to a load test. The three models that withstood the highest load were awarded and two special prizes were given to the most 'architecturally' and 'structurally' beautiful structures. The initiative, now in its second edition, was organized as part of the orientation activities put in place by Unisannio and in particular by the Civil Engineering degree course. Ance Benevento has once again offered three prizes: first prize of 600 euros to the 'Galilei Vetrone' institute of Benevento with over 43 kilograms of load supported; second of 400 euros to the 'Carafa Giustiniani' of Cerreto Sannita with 36 kilograms supported; third of 200 euros to the high school 'Parzanese' of Ariano Irpino with 30 kilograms supported. Special prize Order of Architects of 200 euros for the most architecturally relevant structure was awarded to the 'Carafa Giustiniani' institute of Cerreto, while the special prize Order of Engineers of 200 euros for the best structural model was awarded to the 'Galilei Vetrone', branch of Guardia Sanframondi. 'Our commitment with young people continues - explains Mario Ferraro, president of Ance Benevento - The contest is an effective tool that manages to capture the attention of students and bring them closer, through a competition, to the world of construction.' Professor Giuseppe Maddaloni, professor of Construction Technique at Unisannio, emphasizes the importance of educational initiatives of this kind: 'The design and construction of bridges are an essential part of civil engineering, and this contest offers students the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in a practical context. In addition, the competitive element stimulates the creativity and determination of students, encouraging them to overcome challenges and pursue excellence.' The rector of the Sannio university, Gerardo Canfora, also expresses his confidence in the ability of students to draw inspiration from this experience and to apply the skills acquired in the future. 'The engineers of tomorrow - he adds - are today's students. I am sure that this experience will help to cultivate a new generation of talents in the field of civil engineering, ready to contribute to the construction of a more resilient and sustainable future.'
