After years of suspension, thanks to the initiative of the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and the General Directorate of Archives, work has resumed on the vanvitellian hemicycle identified as the new headquarters of the State Archives of Caserta, along with the spaces already assigned in the Reggia, a news that confirms, as highlighted in a statement, the intention to consider the transfer of archival deposits from via dei Bersaglieri to Pastorano as temporary, pending the completion of works in the spaces intended in front of the Reggia. The premises reserved for the stables and the quartering of the Bourbon troops will be repurposed to accommodate archival deposits and offices, aspiring to become a place of aggregation for the citizens. The works, which began with the completion of the facades, will prioritize the renovation of the basement, which will house the mechanical compactors for the physical archiving of documents, and the creation of a room intended to host the technological hubs. 'The renovation of the State Archives of Caserta - says Sangiuliano - is part of the broader plan for the enhancement of the Italian cultural heritage promoted by the Ministry. With this intervention, we intend not only to protect and preserve a precious heritage for our history but also to make it more accessible and usable to the public to make it a place of study, research, and cultural growth for the community of Caserta and for the entire Nation. The State Archives of Caserta preserves a documentary heritage of considerable value, which includes acts and documents of great relevance for our history.' The completion of the works is expected by April 2025, the State Archives of Caserta will have a surface that will make it among the largest State Archives in Italy.
