A revolutionary procedure for the ablative treatment of atrial fibrillation, using Farapulse Pulsed Field technology, was performed at the Cardiology department of the 'Ospedale del Mare' in Naples.
The procedure was carried out by the team of the head physician Dr. Bernardino Tuccillo, which includes the electrophysiologists Dr. Michelangelo Canciello, Dr. Raimondo Calvanese and Dr. Gennaro Izzo.
The PFA (Pulse Field Ablation) ablation by electroporation involves the application of high voltages (around 2000 V) at the level of the pulmonary veins in order to selectively create pores in the cell membrane of the cardiomyocytes. The main advantage over energies, consists in the tissue selectivity and therefore in the reduction of complications. Furthermore, the procedure is faster and safer.
